In order to close the app on IOS devices, you will need to perform a "double swipe" up at the bottom screen edge instead of the standard single swipe. This is to prevent closing the app while swiping during regular game play. To perform this action, place two fingers at bottom of the game screen and swipe upward.   This opens the device's App Switcher, allowing you to switch between open apps or close them.
